Redevelopment of industrial areas along Søren Frichs Vej
iThroughout history, Aarhus has on several occasions relocated industrial areas out of the city to make more room for housing and light industry. This is what happened when Frichs Fabrikker moved out of Reginakrydset (as it was not called at the time) and to Søren Frichs Vej (as it was not called at the time), and this is happening again now, as the area around Søren Frichs Vej is being transformed yet once more.
The transformation began several years ago when Frich’s old factories were converted into Frichsparken and became home to a number of small businesses and office premises. More recently, the area around Friskofabrikken has been developed, and the area around Finderupvej has also been included in the redevelopment.
Among the last major businesses in the area is the De Danske Vognmænd terminal, but this is in the process of relocating to the forthcoming transport centre at Årslev. In addition, there are a wealth of smaller businesses in the area, many of which are directly linked to the transport sector.
A consortium comprising several property companies and the architects Schmidt Hammer Lassen has, in connection with the Planning Strategy, submitted a proposal for the future development of the area. The project is very long-term and could comprise a total of 250,000 square metres of floor space.
