iNANO

At its meeting on 7 March 2007, Aarhus City Council decided to grant Aarhus University permission to develop the small plot of land between Gustav Wieds Vej, Langelandsgade and Kasernen.

The plans have caused quite a stir in the area, as ‘Æblelunden’ is regarded by local residents as ‘one of the last green spaces in the city’.
As a former resident of the area (I used to live at 216 Vestre Ringgade), I do think that’s perhaps a slight exaggeration. In that very area, there are, after all, plenty of opportunities to use the University Park, and the Botanical Gardens are just a stone’s throw away.

Be that as it may, permission has been granted for Aarhus University to build the iNANO Centre on the site, a centre whose primary focus will be nanotechnology.

The development continues the University’s expansion into the wedge stretching from the tip of the Katrinebjergtriangle to Vennelyst Park – an expansion that is likely to continue onto the site of the Municipal Hospital once these buildings are vacated in favour of the Skejby General Hospital
