Design competition for Bispetorv

At its meeting on 29 August 2007, Aarhus City Council decided to launch a design competition for Bispetorv. Entrants to the competition are to submit proposals for what should happen to the square once the many parking spaces have been removed.

Over the past year, the square has been fitted with a new sandstone wall, and in accordance with a long-standing agreement, the parking spaces on the square are now due to be removed.
The paving on Bispetorv, Teatergade and Kannikegade will then be resurfaced, but first the organisers are seeking ideas for activities and the physical design of the square.
The competition brief is formulated in such a way that Store Torv and the other streets around the Cathedral, as well as Mathilde Fibiger’s Garden, can be included in the proposals.

The Aarhus City Association has put forward ideas for markets throughout the year and an ice rink during the winter months.
