Master Plan for Gellerup
iBrabrand Housing Association, Aarhus Municipality and others have drawn up a master plan for the ghettoised area around Gellerup.
The plan envisages a ‘massive transformation’ of the built environment, centred around a number of high streets and anchor points.
The anchor points are locations and institutions capable of attracting residents from across the city, such as City Vest and Bazar Vest, whilst the pedestrian streets connect these anchor points.
The main pedestrian thoroughfare is to link City Vest and Bazar Vest, and the intention is for the buildings along this thoroughfare to house public-facing functions and similar facilities on their ground floors. Presumably, several buildings will need to be demolished and others built in order to implement the plan.
At the same time, plans are in place to increase density so that the building coverage ratio is slightly higher in selected areas.
An important part of the concept is a mix of housing types, with some of the flats being sold as owner-occupied properties, which is intended to attract residents of Aarhus with a different profile to those living in social housing.
