1. The Golden Side

A conservation scan turns Denmark’s most famous Bronze Age solar image into the key to a buried road between stars.

The first expedition begins without an expedition plan. Dr. Freja Madsen is scanning Solvognen when microscopic markings appear beneath the familiar spirals. They do not form decoration. Repeated at different scales, they describe relationships among the horse, the six wheels and the two faces of the disc. Signe Lau identifies fragments of the same syntax in Old Norse descriptions of the sun’s journey, while Malik Rahbek demonstrates that the sequence changes with season and solar angle.

The chamber

The sequence points to Stevns Klint. Beneath a decommissioned Cold War installation, Freja, Major Elias Holm, Malik and Rune Petersen enter a fitted-stone chamber that predates everything above it. Its circular platform has six radial channels and a central mounting point shaped for Solvognen. Director Birgitte Voss orders a controlled alignment test before the site can attract institutional attention.

At midnight the gilded horse moves under its own power. The Golden Face turns toward the platform and the channels fill with concentrated light. Elias tries to pull the team back, but the aperture expands across the room and takes all four of them.

The first crossing

They emerge inside a silent marker station facing an unfamiliar star. Nothing in the chamber resembles a vehicle; the doorway has moved space around them. Rune restores power by completing a circuit that responds to touch rather than tools. A status wall wakes and translates itself into the only language the visitors share: MIDGARD HAS RETURNED.

The return route lasts eleven minutes. When the team reaches Stevns again, Voss seals the facility and creates Project SolPorten. Freja argues that the message was a warning sent to every surviving destination. Voss hears an announcement of strategic opportunity. Neither yet understands that the activation has also restored Midgard to the network’s routing table.

Episode 1 chronology

  1. The hidden layer

Freja’s scan reveals the operating sequence beneath Solvognen’s decoration.

  2. Stevns

The team enters the buried circular chamber.

  3. Alignment

Solvognen is placed at the platform’s centre.

  4. First crossing

The Golden Face opens a route and takes the team.

  5. Return signal

The marker station announces that Midgard has returned.

Consequence

The first opening proves three things: Solvognen is an operating instrument, the buried platform is only one endpoint, and somebody expected Earth to remain absent. The next route encoded by the Golden Face points toward a system remembered as Alfheim.
