8. Sun Eater

As the complete network appears, the team must close Bifröst while Vidar takes half of Solvognen and Fenrir learns where Midgard is.

Vidar’s arrival turns the Stevns chamber into a contest between three claims: Voss’s state authority, Vidar’s inherited Æsir authority and the field team’s refusal to let either side control the network. Bifröst continues its diagnostic process, drawing power through Solvognen and rendering the full route system around Liv.

Yggdrasil

The image resembles a tree only because branching light is the nearest human metaphor. Yggdrasil is the complete topology of stabilised stellar corridors: trunk routes through major stars, branches toward inhabited systems and roots extending through dead or hidden states addressed by the Dark Face. Every successful expedition has repaired part of it.

Malik detects another pattern moving along the roots. Liv calls it Fenrir; Hel called it the One Beneath the Ash. It consumes the energy gradients left by active routes and is now following the newly restored path toward Midgard.

Breaking the key

Freja uses Anna’s final instruction. Solvognen’s two faces can be separated, preventing any one operator from addressing both living and dead routes. Rune releases the locking mechanism while Elias contains Vidar and Voss. Signe sends a closure command through Bifröst using the same poetic structure that originally opened it.

Vidar reaches the platform first and takes the Golden Face. Freja retains the Dark Face. Bifröst closes before Fenrir enters the solar route, but Vidar escapes through an Æsir path carrying the means to reopen routes through living stars.

Season end

Voss’s authority is suspended, though the programme survives. Signe remains with the team under Elias’s protection. Liv’s map is quieter but not blank. Freja places the Dark Face beside her mother’s record and begins cataloguing routes that do not require Bifröst.

Far outside the closed system, Vidar fits the Golden Face into an Æsir instrument. A single branch of Yggdrasil lights. In the darkness beneath it, Fenrir changes direction. Midgard has been hidden, discovered and hidden again—but no longer forgotten.
