Tens of thousands of VW Golf engines are being turned into new power stations | Ingeniøren

Decentralised mini-power stations combined with heat pumps are, on the one hand, a way of compensating for the instability of wind turbines and, on the other, a far better use of our remaining natural gas (burning gas purely for boiler operation is utterly stupid). But this STILL does not solve the problem that we need at least 5–6 conventional thermal power units in Denmark to maintain synchronisation with the Nordic and European grids respectively.

Quote from ing.dk:
‘The Volkswagen Group, in collaboration with an energy company, plans to install mini combined heat and power plants – based on gas engines from the VW Golf – in German boiler rooms. The Germans believe these are far better at supplementing the wind turbines with electricity. [...]’
