The Nine Realms
The names survived as mythology. The places survived as isolated components of a civilisation built around stars.
Project SolPorten uses realm for a destination region with its own environment, population and relationship to the network. A realm may be a planet, engineered habitat, stellar installation or preserved state. The old poems flatten these differences into one cosmology. The network does not.

Beyond nine
The traditional catalogue cannot be mapped cleanly to nine planets. Some names identify cultures, some identify places and others identify infrastructure. The Dead Roads and the Roots are network regions rather than worlds. “Nine Realms” is therefore a useful historical index, not a complete technical model.
