Aarhus has gained a new haven.
On the stretch of Åboulevarden where the stream has recently been brought back to the surface, a new, small café offering high quality at low prices has recently opened.

The place is called suppestegogis and is situated between Busgaden and Grønnegade. The name suggests a fondness for traditional virtues, whilst the spelling hints at a certain modern twist. Both are spot on.

I popped in on an empty stomach one morning around 10 o’clock, and my eye was caught by the sign advertising breakfast for a modest 25 kroner.

I ordered the meal, accompanied by a cup of coffee for 20 kroner, and it wasn’t a bad choice.
The breakfast consisted of an egg, butter, cheese, sausage, and a little fruit and vegetables.
Along with this came a basket of rye and wheat bread.

All the ingredients appeared to have been carefully selected, and the bread, butter and cold cuts were of a somewhat higher quality than one usually finds along that stretch of road...

The coffee was a delicious filter coffee, and as soon as the cup was almost empty, the owner immediately stepped in and topped it up.

All in all, an excellent breakfast at an unbelievably low price. The café is bright and cosy, and a relaxing place where you can sit with your newspaper or simply let your mind wander.

As well as breakfast, a range of other dishes are of course served, including a selection of soups and fresh ice cream.
