Redevelopment of Vesterbro Torv
Aarhus Municipality’s transport plan, ‘Roads to the Future 2020’, includes a redevelopment of Vesterbro Torv.
iThe redevelopment is part of a traffic calming scheme on Langelandsgade, which aims to divert more traffic to Ringgaden.
As part of the redevelopment, car traffic will be moved to the south side, whilst the north side will be reserved for buses. Hjortensgade will become a one-way street towards the square, and cycle lanes will be constructed on both sides.
The redevelopment is due to take place around 2015, but there is already talk of the square, as the car park on the square is due to be returned to the local council shortly. Like other town squares, the site was leased 50 years ago for use as a car park, but the lease is now due to expire.
The local council has invited ideas for the future use of the squares, and the plan is to draw up a project proposal in the course of the year.
