Golf Centre at Lyngbygaard
iIn 2003–2004, Aarhus Municipality held a public debate on the subject of golf courses in Aarhus.
In addition to extensions to the existing courses, it was decided to draw up detailed plans for a golf course west of the village of Lyngby, north-west of the motorway junction between the Silkeborg Motorway and the E45.
Lyngbygård is an old manor house whose history dates back to the 16th century. The manor’s land covers over 200 ha, of which approximately 100 ha is currently being converted into a golf course.
In 2002, the decision was made to convert the land into a golf course rather than pursue the alternatives of intensive pig farming or a forest nursery.
A company was established with four residents of Aarhus, the estate owner and the professional golfer Thomas Bjørn as the main shareholders. The aim is to create a golf club of consistently high quality.
The golf course will consist of an 18-hole championship course and a 9-hole short course, as well as a driving range and various club facilities.
The courses are being designed by von Hagge, who has previously been responsible for some of the world’s finest courses in both the US and Europe. The courses are being designed with equal emphasis on playability and aesthetics, and access to the grounds will be provided for the general public via several nature trails through the area.
The courses are expected to be completed in May 2009.
